Creating Your Own Halloween Costume Without Breaking Your Budget

Creating Your Own Halloween Costume without Breaking Your Budget

As a result of the down turn in the economy, many families have been forced to make essential cut backs in their budgets in order to maintain financial stability. Many people often feel that this means making cut backs on special occasions that require extra costs. Such an occasion is Halloween.

Halloween is a fun time for both adults and children. Whether you are going to a Halloween party, or taking your children trick-or-treating, you are going to have to get a costume. Because Halloween can be an expensive holiday; creating their own costume can cut down these costs. Fortunately, you can still have a fun Halloween with a great costume that does not result in breaking your budget.

One way of acquiring a great costume is to plan ahead. A few months before Halloween, start setting a little money aside in a special envelope or container that will be used specifically for Halloween expenses. If necessary, reduce expenses on one entertainment activity to balance your budget to include money for a Halloween costume. By the time Halloween arrives, you will have enough money saved for a costume and other Halloween related expenses.

One can also stay within their budget by finding inexpensive methods of acquiring a costume. For instance, if you have your heart set on a store bought costume, check the bargain section of retail and department stores for an inexpensive costume. As well, many department stores will offer great sales on costumes after Halloween so you can get a really inexpensive costume to use the next year. Make sure you take advantage of discounts and coupons. It is important to comparison shop for great deals on costumes.

If you want to create your costume from scratch, check used clothing stores, consignment shops, Dollar stores, and other retail shops that sell cheap merchandise. You can create an entire costume for under ten dollars.

The following is a list of ideas on creating a Halloween costume that will not break your budget if you shop wisely:

Hippie: Dress up using such clothing as ripped jeans with peace sign markings, a tie dye shirt, beads, peace buttons, bell bottom jeans, jeans with tears in them, sandals, funky sunglasses…etc. Check used clothing stores for items.

Gypsy: Wear a flowing skirt and a full blouse. Wear lots of bright jewelry, a shawl, and a belt.

Mummy: Wear white clothing. Wrap strips of white sheets around your body, arms, legs, and head. Leave a space for your eyes.

8 Great Teen Halloween Costume Ideas That Your Teenager Would Be Thrilled To Wear!

As soon as kids go back to school in the fall, it seem that all of a sudden their focus is on Halloween, even though at that point it’s still about a month and a half away! It’s really important to teenagers to find just the right costume to wear as they want to look cool around their peers. Their friends’ opinions of what they wear is paramount to them.

So even though you may just be getting back into your usual routine after summer is over, and enjoying the quiet at home,all of a sudden you now have something else to get your head around, a teen Halloween costume! You want to find some cool teenager costumes that fit into your comfort level and yet ones that your teen would be thrilled to wear.

There are literally infinite ideas and disguises to choose from. Especially with so much now available on the web. I did some research and tried to find out what teenagers are into and what they would think was cool to wear and came up with the list below of some great teenager costumes…

* Doomslayers Tomb Slayer

* Evil Warlock

* Howling Horror

* Skeleton Zombie

* Fade In/Out Phantom

* Bloody Bones

* Gate Keeper

* Barnacle Bones

Costumes have come such a long way from when I was a child, I’m thinking of and remembering those cheap plastic masks that have those rubber bands on the back to hold them on your face? They would always pull at your hair! What a difference nowadays. The children and teen Halloween costume variety now is incredible – you can dress up as just about whatever you’d like, from a movie hero to a TV show character or an infamous monster from a comic book. I wish I’d had those choices when I was young. There’s little difficulty finding that costume of your dreams, or should I say someone else’s nightmares!

Just don’t wait around this Halloween until the last minute. If you’re searching for a really unique and cool teen Halloween costume, then may I suggest you visit one of those online Halloween costume websites and see for yourself the amazing outfits that are available. Just do a Google search to seek out a massive selection of spooky costumes for teens, like the 8 outfits mentioned above, and you’ll also usually be able to find a wide variety of accessories and decorations for your home on these sites too. Always remember that you generally get what you pay for. If it costs hardly anything at all, there’s likely a good reason for it.

Easy Homemade Adult Halloween Costumes

So, it’s the day before Halloween and you’ve been invited to a party. The theme is “Shock your Mother,” but you haven’t got a clue what to wear. You hunt desperately through your closet trying to find something, anything you could put on that would work, but nothing comes up. You consider going out to a store and buying or renting a costume, but then you remember, oh yeah, I’m not working. What I really need, you say to yourself, is an easy homemade adult Halloween costume. Hey, no problem. I’ve got your covered.

Let’s take another look inside of that closet of yours and see what you can find. Got an old leather jacket? Check. Dig out that old pair of jeans you’ve had since college and start ripping a few holes in them. You know what to do. You need to make it look like it was cool back in the 1980s. Now go out and buy some hair jel (in a pinch, Vaseline would do, but really, dude, spend a few bucks and get the hair jel).

Slick back your hair, get out a nice clean T-shirt, slide on the jacket and the jeans together with some cool boots and you are three quarters of the way to making yourself a 1980′s punk rocker. If you really want to complete the look, either buy or borrow a dog collar with spikes on it and maybe even put a bit of black lipstick on. That works for both the men and the women, seriously.

Okay, here’s another idea for an easy homemade adult Halloween costume that’s exactly the opposite and requires almost no new purchases. The first thing you’ll need is your good Sunday suit. Or if you’re a woman, some kind of a pant suit business like thing. No, your nice jeans will not, emphatically not do the job here. Only a proper suit will work. You also have a nice pair of shoes, right? Dude, if you haven’t got that stuff you need it anyway. There’s a recession out there with 9.7% unemployment. You need a nice suit and shoes in order to land a good job.

Okay, now go and dig around for your old pair of dark sunglasses. You want one that looks cool, but I’m guessing you know that already. The wrap around kind that grandpa wears just will not cut it. Now all you need is a cheap toy machine gun (maybe ten bucks at Toys R Us) and an ear bud you don’t mind destroying. You can buy one of those for 99 cents.

Stick one ear bud into an ear, tuck the wire under your collar around the back, don the sunglasses and suit, hoist the machine gun across your shoulders (you’ve got a strap, right?) and low and behold, you’re now a Secret Service agent. Congratulations on protecting the President and on creating an easy homemade adult Halloween costume. Have a happy Halloween.
